In Gori, unkindness is not dislike. A lack of a smile is not suspicion or hostility. It simply means that you are not recognized as a special personality. You are treated like an objectโand strangely, that makes me feel at peace. There is no judgment here. No silent reading of emotions, no โHow is he feeling today?โ type of gaze. Even after visiting the same restaurant more than ten times, they still donโt โrememberโ me. I donโt โrememberโ them either. There is no liability.
I am just another body entering their space. Kindness, on the other hand, always contains awareness. A smile means theyโve noticed you, and that you have become a non-ordinary presence in their day. And where there is awareness, there is judgment. It become tip ๐
Sometimes I miss that 1 percent of kindness. But at the same time, there is a strange comfort in this unkindnessโa stillness that asks for nothing, a neutrality that lets me exist without shape. Right now, Iโm experiencing both at onceโa double perception, where comfort and confusion overlap. Itโs disorienting, and yet, it makes me feel vividly alive.
And the taste? Great!
